Elephant Seals

For some reason these elephant seals decided to colonize the beach at Piedras Blancas in 1990. They couldn't care less that people come by the bus loads to view them from only a few feet away. There's a reason. They have special, special protection.

Behind the sunglasses our eyes are coming out of our sockets.

Sunning both sides of their flippers. So cute.

So incredibly stinky. Smelly. Foul. Rancid. Rank. Reeking. Rotten.
Very special protection.

All they do is sun themselves, shovel sand on their blob bodies, and stink.

Morro Bay Rock. Only included, albeit out of focus, because it looks
like a big dessert.

These male ducks, plus at least two other ones, romanced a girl duck
quite ferociously outside our restaurant in San Luis Obispo. It was
practically assault. She ran for it. But 5 minutes later was back for more
and left with the most handsome drake*.
